What You Can and Can't Send Between Poland and Ireland

Good news first: because Poland and Ireland are both in the EU, there are no customs charges or import VAT on your parcel, and the vast majority of everyday items ship without any problem. Clothes, household goods, gifts, furniture and non-perishable Polish food all travel happily between the two countries. A small number of categories are restricted or prohibited for safety reasons, and if you are ever unsure, the simplest thing to do is ask us before you book.
The good news: no customs, most things are fine
Since both Poland and Ireland are EU member states, sending a parcel between them works much like sending one within a single country. There is no customs paperwork to fill in, no import duty and no VAT surprise waiting at the other end. That keeps the process simple and the cost predictable: a standard parcel starts from €25 and can weigh up to 50 kg, while larger items and pallets are quoted individually. You can get an instant quote in seconds.
Being inside the EU removes the customs barrier, but it does not mean absolutely anything can be shipped. A handful of items are restricted or prohibited everywhere for safety and legal reasons, regardless of borders.
What people most commonly send
Most of what we carry every week is exactly what you would expect between family, friends and small businesses on the Poland-Ireland route:
- Non-perishable Polish food and groceries - tinned, jarred, dried and packaged goods
- Clothes, shoes and textiles
- Household goods, kitchenware and small appliances
- Furniture and larger household items (quoted individually)
- Parcels, gifts and personal belongings
If your shipment fits one of these everyday categories, you can usually book straight away with no special arrangements.
Categories that are restricted or prohibited
Some items are restricted or prohibited for safety reasons. This is a general guide rather than a complete legal list, so treat it as a starting point and check with us if your item is not clearly covered. Categories that commonly cause problems include:
- Dangerous or hazardous goods of any kind
- Flammable or pressurised items, such as aerosols, gas canisters and fuel
- Batteries that are loose, damaged or shipped on their own
- Perishable or fresh food
- Live plants or animals
- Anything illegal
- Cash and high-value documents
If your item sits anywhere near one of these categories, please do not guess. A quick message to us is always faster and cheaper than a parcel that cannot travel.
Why these rules exist
These restrictions are not red tape for its own sake - they exist to keep everyone safe. Flammable, pressurised and hazardous goods can be dangerous in transit, especially when parcels are handled, stacked and moved between vehicles. Perishable food, plants and animals can spoil or suffer over a multi-day journey. Keeping these items off the van protects your shipment, the other parcels travelling alongside it and the people handling them.
Handling valuable or fragile items
Everyday items travel comfortably, but valuable or breakable goods deserve a little extra care. Pack fragile items in a sturdy box with plenty of padding so nothing shifts during the journey, and make sure the contents cannot move when the box is gently shaken. For anything worth protecting, we offer optional insurance you can add when you book, and every shipment comes with tracking so you can follow it from collection to delivery. If you are sending something unusual or particularly valuable, tell us in advance and we will advise on the best way to send it.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Will I have to pay customs or VAT?
No. Poland and Ireland are both in the EU, so there are no customs charges or import VAT on parcels travelling between them. Content rules still apply, so some items remain restricted regardless of borders.
Can I send Polish food?
Yes, non-perishable Polish food and groceries are among the most common things we carry - tinned, jarred, dried and packaged goods all travel fine. Fresh or perishable food cannot be sent, as it can spoil during the journey.
What if I am not sure whether my item is allowed?
Just ask us before you book. Our restricted categories are a general guide rather than a complete list, so a quick check is always worth it. We would much rather answer a question than have your parcel held up.
How much does it cost and how long does it take?
A standard parcel starts from €25 and can weigh up to 50 kg, with larger items and pallets quoted individually. Door-to-door delivery usually takes 3-6 working days. Get an instant quote or place your order online.
