Household appliances
Household appliances (washing machines, fridges, dishwashers, ovens, cookers) are heavy and often delicate devices that require solid protection during transport.
1Preparing the appliance
- ✓Disconnect the appliance from power and water min. 24h before transport.
- ✓Fridges and freezers: defrost completely, wipe dry.
- ✓Washing machines: secure the drum with transit bolts (screws at the back).
- ✓Dishwashers: drain the water, secure the spray arms.
- ✓Gas cookers: disconnect the gas and secure the connections.
⚠️
Wet, mouldy or dirty appliances will not be accepted for transport.
2Packaging
The best protection is the original manufacturer packaging with polystyrene inserts.
- ✓If you have the original packaging – use it along with the inserts.
- ✓Without the original: wrap the appliance in bubble wrap (min. 2 layers).
- ✓Protect corners with cardboard or foam.
- ✓Wrap the whole thing in stretch film – min. 3–4 layers.
3Securing moving parts
- ✓Secure doors with packing tape so they don't open during transport.
- ✓Remove drawers and shelves or secure them against sliding.
- ✓Coil cables and hoses and tape them to the casing.
💡
A washing machine without drum transit bolts is at risk of serious damage. If you don't have the bolts, contact the manufacturer's service centre.
4Labelling the shipment
- ✓Label "THIS WAY UP" – appliances must be transported in an upright position.
- ✓Add labels "HANDLE WITH CARE" and "DO NOT STACK".
- ✓State the weight of the appliance on the outside of the packaging.
