Glass and porcelain
Glass and porcelain are among the most fragile materials sent in shipments. Even a small vibration can cause damage, so they require particularly careful packing.
1Wrap each item individually
- ✓Use bubble wrap, packing paper or special cushioning mats.
- ✓Never pack several pieces together loosely – each vessel must be separated.
- ✓Stack plates and flat items vertically (like books on a shelf) with dividers.
- ✓Between each layer use cushioning (cardboard, foam, thick paper).
2Fill empty spaces
- ✓Use: paper, polystyrene chips, skropak, crumpled cardboard.
- ✓Items must not shift inside the box.
- ✓Test: shake the box – if anything moves, add more filler.
3"Box in a box" method
For particularly valuable or fragile items, we recommend double packaging.
- ✓Place the packed box inside a larger box with a layer of filler between them.
- ✓This method increases the chances of delicate contents surviving an impact.
💡
For valuable items, consider packing on a pallet with an additional layer of protection.
4Sealing and labelling
- ✓Seal the box firmly with packing tape on the top and bottom.
- ✓Label the parcel: "CAUTION – GLASS", "FRAGILE", "DO NOT STACK".
- ✓Do not use boxes from nappies, crisps or food products – they are too thin.
