Glass and Porcelain Packing Instructions
Items made of glass or porcelain are among the most fragile and sensitive goods handled during transport. Proper packaging is crucial to minimize the risk of damage, especially given the nature of road transport and parcel sorting processes.
How to Pack Glass and Porcelain Items
1. Wrap each item individually:
- Use bubble wrap or foam padding to wrap each item separately (plates, mugs, glasses, etc.).
- Secure the wrapping with adhesive tape to prevent it from unraveling during transit.
2. Use cardboard dividers or inner boxes:
- Place wrapped items in small cardboard boxes (inner cartons) and then into a larger outer box.
- Use dividers to prevent items from touching one another.
3. Fill all empty space:
- Use padding materials (e.g., paper, air cushions, or packing peanuts) to fill voids and prevent movement.
- The contents must not shift when the box is shaken gently.
4. Double-boxing is highly recommended:
- Place the packed box with glass/porcelain into a second, larger box with padding between the two.
- This method provides extra shock absorption.
5. Label the box properly:
- Mark it as “FRAGILE”, “HANDLE WITH CARE”, “DO NOT STACK”, or “DELICATE”.
What NOT to do
- Do not pack glass or porcelain items loose in the box.
- Do not allow items to touch or rattle inside.
- Do not send these items in half-empty boxes.
- Do not use newspaper or thin paper as the only filler – it offers little protection.
- Do not send glass or porcelain in soft packaging or stretch film only.
Important Notice – Shipping Restrictions
- ⚠️ Glass and porcelain are strictly excluded from shipping in standard and oversized parcel services.
- ⚠️ Glass items shipped as part of house moves or pallet deliveries are transported at the sender’s own risk.
- ⚠️ Fragile goods such as glass and porcelain are NOT covered by transport insurance.
Glass or porcelain marked as “fragile” is always handled with care by Speedpack, but due to the transport method (e.g., stacking packages), we cannot guarantee damage-free delivery unless professionally packed and transported on a pallet.
