Lamp Packing Instructions
Lamps are delicate and irregularly shaped items that require thoughtful and thorough packaging. Improperly packed lamps are at high risk of bending, breaking, or scratching during transport. The safest way to ship lamps is in their original manufacturer packaging. If that’s unavailable, follow the instructions below to prepare the lamp for secure transport.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Disassemble if possible:
- Remove the bulb, lampshade, and any detachable parts.
- Pack each part separately with adequate protection.
2. Protect the base and stem:
- Wrap the base and body of the lamp in several layers of bubble wrap or foam.
- Reinforce corners and any protruding parts with extra padding.
- Use cardboard to cover sharp or extended elements, such as decorative arms or stands.
3. Secure the lampshade:
- Wrap the lampshade separately using soft materials such as foam wrap or thick bubble wrap.
- Avoid compressing the lampshade β it must retain its original shape.
- If fragile, use a double box method with padding inside and between the boxes.
4. Use a strong cardboard box:
- Choose a rigid, undamaged, and appropriately sized box.
- Fill any gaps inside with filler material (e.g., paper, foam chips) to prevent internal movement.
5. Seal and label the box:
- Secure the box with strong packing tape on all sides.
- Mark the package clearly with labels such as βFRAGILEβ, βHANDLE WITH CAREβ, and βDO NOT STACKβ.
Important Tips
- Do not send lamps unwrapped or with exposed elements.
- Avoid using soft bags or stretch film only.
- Do not leave empty spaces that may allow parts to move inside the box.
- If the lamp includes glass or ceramic parts β follow additional protection measures as for fragile goods.
