How to pack?

Pallet Packing Instructions

Proper pallet packing is essential for the safe and efficient transport of goods, especially in international freight forwarding. Incorrectly secured pallets may cause delays, additional handling fees, or even damage to your items or other shipments. This guide outlines the key rules and best practices for preparing a pallet for shipment with Speedpack.

Use the Right Pallet

  • Choose a strong, undamaged EURO or industrial pallet. Standard Euro-pallet dimensions are 120×80 cm.
  • The pallet must be suitable for the weight and size of your shipment.
  • Wooden pallets must be dry, solid, and free of protruding nails or damage that could affect load stability.

Box Selection and Preparation

  • Use high-quality, three-layer cardboard boxes.
  • Boxes should be fully filled to avoid collapsing under weight but not overfilled to prevent bulging.
  • Securely seal each box with strong packing tape on all seams and edges.
  • Label boxes clearly with content description if needed.

Loading the Pallet

  • Arrange boxes in columns from heaviest at the bottom to lightest at the top.
  • Do not let boxes overhang the edges of the pallet – this can cause damage during handling.
  • Place the boxes so that their edges align with the pallet edges to maintain load balance.
  • Avoid placing any items loose or unsecured on top of the stack.

Wrapping and Securing the Load

  • Wrap the entire pallet in stretch film from the base to the top, using multiple layers (recommended: 5–7 turns).
  • Start wrapping around the bottom edge and gradually move upward.
  • Include the pallet base in the first 2–3 wraps to stabilize the whole structure.
  • Optionally, use edge guards and corner protectors to prevent compression or film tears.
  • For tall or heavy loads, consider adding straps or banding for extra support.

Stability and Height

  • The final height of the pallet must not exceed 180 cm unless previously arranged with Speedpack.
  • The load should be compact and uniform in shape to prevent tipping during transport.
  • Avoid creating a pyramid or uneven load distribution – flat tops are easier and safer to stack.

Labeling the Pallet

  • Attach shipping labels securely to at least two adjacent sides of the pallet.
  • If the pallet includes fragile items, use appropriate labels such as β€œFRAGILE”, β€œDO NOT STACK”, or β€œHANDLE WITH CARE”.
  • Make sure labels are not obscured by stretch film or placed on the top surface only.

What Not to Do

  • Do not place unpacked items or plastic bags directly on the pallet.
  • Do not leave empty spaces between boxes – use filler if necessary.
  • Do not stack unstable or round items without appropriate support.
  • Do not use torn or wet pallets.
  • Do not wrap only the top – the pallet must be wrapped tightly from the bottom up.

Additional Tips

  • If transporting electronics, ensure boxes have internal foam inserts or anti-shock packaging.
  • For mixed contents (e.g., documents + electronics), group them by type and clearly mark sensitive sections.
  • For fragile or valuable goods, consider the double-boxing method.
  • Palletized shipments must be accessible for forklifts – do not block openings for pallet jacks.

Oversized or Irregular Loads

  • For items exceeding standard pallet dimensions or weighing over 1000 kg, please contact Speedpack in advance.
  • Oversized items may require custom pallets or metal frames.
  • The entire shipment must remain stable during loading, transport, and unloading.
